NSEC cutoff & INChO selection

Understand what a cutoff means, why MAS is not a selection guarantee, and which official list decides progression.

NSEC 2026 has not yet taken place. No actual 2026 cutoff or selection result is available on this site.

Two terms to understand

TermMeaning
Minimum Admissible Score (MAS)An eligibility threshold, calculated as 50% of the relevant top-ten average, rounded down.
Merit Index (MI)A higher threshold, calculated as 80% of that average, rounded down. The brochure explains the automatic-qualification clause.
Selection listThe official outcome after all applicable eligibility, representation, quota and tie rules.

Class groups matter in 2026–27

Group A is Class XII; Group B is Classes XI and X, as of 30 November 2026. The subject paper is the same, but MAS and MI are calculated separately for each group. State representation and the other clauses in the brochure also apply.

A numerical illustration

Suppose a group’s top-ten average were 180.6. Then MAS would be floor(0.50 × 180.6) = 90, and MI would be floor(0.80 × 180.6) = 144. These are invented teaching numbers, not an actual year’s cutoff.

How to check a result properly

  1. Use the final answer key matching your paper code when estimating your score.
  2. Read the official result and selection notices for your session and group.
  3. Check the applicable selection list, rather than treating MAS alone as confirmation.
  4. If selected, complete HBCSE’s separate INO registration within the announced window.

Historical scores are useful context only when you also check the year’s paper format and selection rules. We do not publish an unverified “safe score” or convert this site’s practice score into a predicted national rank.
